I'm sure Kevin will be able to explain more fully, but the gist is that MacOS's native dialog treats .zip files (and epubs are zip files) like folders. So the Sigil Open/Save dialog had to modified so that it doesn't use the native macOS file dialog. That's probably why your favorites and the iCloud options are not present.

Using the preferences button to open Sigil's preferences location has nothing to do with opening/saving epubs (which are.zip files), so the native dialog can be used.

But surely there's still a way to browse to the iCloud synced folders' location on your Mac with the non-native dialog?
