Finally got around to fixing this after kobo said it was unfixable. Thanks again for the img David.
If there's anyone wondering how to do this there's a very easy tutorial on YouTube for windows folks. If you've got a Mac, it's a matter of formatting the card for fat32, and using Balenaetcher to flash the .img to that sdcard.
