All my gmail is setup via the Google web interface to forward to non-gmail accounts.
If my domain provider's DNS goes down, or my hosting goes down, then I can use the Web Interface.
Naturally the Domain Services company and Hosting company have either gmail addresses for me or also a gmail address! Though both have a login web portal to report issues, the replies would go to gmail.
