I self-host my own cloud storage using NextCloud. Works great for my family, but not the solution for everybody, as you have to be somewhat technically astute to implement it.
I've never messed with Amazon Cloud. I assume some level of free storage must come with a Prime membership, but I've never used it. One, because of security issues handing a third party your important files. And two, because at some time it will either become non-free, or go away entirely.
