On this we are in full agreement. I find the horizontal gradient particularly annoying because it is in the reading direction (I can cope with a slight vertical gradient). This is why I didn't keep the Kobo Forma, Kobo Libra and Kindle Oasis 3. The Kobo Libra 2 seemed to correct this negative tendency in my eyes. And I expected the same from the PocketBook Era. However, each device varies. The photographs posted on Facebook show reasonable lighting. Also, one should not be too hasty in making assessments without having the device in front of one's eyes.
