That isn't a sign of a dead battery. These devices will run with dead batteries when plugged in. Or with the battery removed. As the screen is flashing, it is trying to start. I would suggest you try a manual factory reset following the instructions on https://help.kobo.com/hc/en-us/artic...or-Kobo-Elipsa. But, for step 2, as the device is not booting properly, hold the power button down for about 20 seconds to ensure it is off.
