I can't see drinking hard liquor with food unless we're talking ice cold vodka or gin with little bits of smelly fish tidbits.
If I'm thirsty-ish I'll have beer with pizza, if not then wine.
For sipping stuff I lean towards brandy more than whisky/whiskey/bourbon.
