I don't mind signing in with a real email address as it doesn't ask for payment or address details and after years since my original Kobo Aura HD H2O they have never used that address nor passed it on. Zero emails except my tests!
I only have the Sidemode on because I use "Recent" "Reading" "Titles" as my "home screen", slightly like the old one where you could dismiss all tiles except books being read.
