Expecting to use new software on arbitrarily old versions of linux is an insane requirement, given the idiotic compatibility policies of the linux ecosystem. If you want to stick with ancient distros, use ancient software on it. Or switch to windows, which takes compatibility more seriously, you can run calibre 6 on seven year old versions of windows 10 if you want.
