Also, it depends on Page setup under Common option in Preferences. I have mine set as Input profile: Default profile and Output profile: Tablet.That way Calibre will not change the images and leave them as they are in the source format.
In this case, it's either the wrong settings so the images are being reduced or the images are just too small. if the conversion is to ePub, it should be failry easy in the editor to search/replace to make the images display full screen. The CSS for that is easy to create.

Curious, do you always set the Output as Tablet? Does this not affect the resizing when you actually want to transfer it to a Kobo?
I want to do both, read on a Kobo and read in the calibre viewer. Are you implying I have to have two conversions for ePub, one for tablet and one for e-ink?
