Automatic management:
Preferences -> Sending books to devices -> Metadata management -> Automatic
Once you have sent the books to the Kobo, eject the device and wait until the books have been processed. Then connect your Kobo to Calibre again and let Calibre update the metadata on the device. Now you should have the series info on your Kobo.
