Keeping costs low will help me on my next reader. Once Sony comes out with an actual upgrade worth having that is.
Even the cheapest of these chargers will have a resistor in it. I've head of some of them smoking, which just burns the resistor. So the resistor basically acts as a fuse as well. Something would have to go really wrong for a surge of power to get into your reader.
Alter the battery effectiveness with a lower ampage? Who knows, I don't know enough about batteries... Either way the warranty is gone after a year, which I'm pretty sure the battery will last. After that I'll be using the service manual to change the battery.
I agree, charger should have came with it. But 29.99 for a name brand charger is certainly not for me... No offense, but I bet you're a fan of extended warranties!
