Record of Blood the third in Sabrina Flynn's Ravenwood series. It's an interesting read, using backstory to move the personal and professional relationships of the two leads forward. There are two little gems that have me leaning toward it being at least 4.5/5 for me:
The female lead made a choice to withhold vital information from the male lead, her investigative partner. This had me all

muttering "use your words!". Then later, this:

I’m beginning to feel like I’m caught in an idiotic Shakespearean play where the characters refuse to communicate with each other. I’m guilty of it, too.

The other little thing that REALLY impressed me was this

“You know Chinese, too?” Tobias asked.
“Cantonese,” Riot corrected.

THAT was swoonworthy! The ignorant insistence that the different (many mutually unintelligible) members of the Sinitic language family are "dialects" is wrongheaded and one of my major bêtes noires. To see that very widespread Anglocentric assumption called out like this was a delight.
