Firstly, where do you get the information that there is going to be a Forma 2? I don't think I have seen anything and I am fairly sure the Sage is the replacement for the Forma.

For your other comments:

The Forma is probably being discontinued, but, it is still available many months after the Sage was released. I don't know what that means. But, the hardware in it is as up to date and capable as anything else. Kobo is still releasing firmware updates for it and there is no reason to think that will stop. They are still releasing firmware updates for the Touch that was released in 2011. If the device fits your needs, you should not ignore it.

For the Sage, I do not believe there is an extra layer for note-taking. It uses a wireless connected pen. There are people in the Kobo forum who have both the Sage and Libra 2. These use the same resolution and version of the e-ink screen. I haven't seen any comments suggesting the Sage screen is worse in any way than the Libra 2. Comparing my Sage to my Libra H2O or Forma, it is better. It seems clearer and easier to read. But, honestly, that is only noticeable when I am swapping between them.
