I'm glad you were able to work around the problem.
Amazon's Kindle Previewer is a tool intended for use by publishers and isn't very tolerant of problems in the source file. The plugin tries to work around some of the more common issues that cause the Previewer to fail, but there are so many ways that an EPUB can be messed up that it is impossible to catch them all. In this case garbled file:// URLs triggered the internal error.
