For example, "Inkpad 3" was released in 2018 (Touch Lux 2 in 2014 - last Update → 5.17.2173 =
8 years) and the updates are still coming and will be delivered so I would not see it so dramatically.
Kobo is easier to update, as older versions have essentially the same chassis without HW (CPUetc) upgrades against the Pocketbook.
Therefore, in many cases, the update for one specific device can be installed on a completely different model.
