Sending news to iPad

Hi,

I have calibre 5.43, an iPad, and Marvin 3. Calibre is running the content server and I'm able to access it directly from Marvin, or via web browser. My problem, after much searching, is this:

I'm downloading news with calibre successfully, and have it set to automatically send it to my ereader. However, this doesn't happen. Nothing turns up on the iPad anywhere, nevermind in Marvin. (Yes, the iPad is connected, via USB cable.)

I understand that there was a direct driver ages ago, but that changes made by Apple killed it. (Gee, what a surprise.) What I'd like to know is - is there any kind of replacement? Or way of achieving it? Calibre Connector *kind of* does it, but not really, and only with a wireless connection, which seems to disconnect if you minimize it, which does cause a difficulty with data transfer, especially when it doesn't start again when you reconnect.

I also know there's a plethora of apps that will let me put my whole calibre library on my iPad, but as my library is about 987Gb that's not really possible. (Though it's just occurred to me to try creating a virtual library containing just the news entries and replicate that. Does anyone know if that would work?). But that's a lot of messing about, and I'm hoping there's an easier method that I can just 'set and forget'.
