Again... yours may not be an outlier position, but it it certainly not the predominant one either. I'm not a literary snob at all. Remember, I'm the one who said that Ulysses didn't move me all that much, personally. I'm just choosing not to be presumptuous enough to try and make the decision for those who haven't already read it.
It is my opinion that there is more than enough people (literary scholars and lay-people alike) who DO consider it a masterpiece of modern literature to make arguing against it being considered such to be quite futile.
Lots of literary masterpieces are wasted on me. So what? My tastes aren't all that discerning. But I've certainly got better things to do than to campaign to have them knocked from their pedestals.
