There is an optional update blocker extension that works by renaming the OTA update progam files. That should still work.

Thanks for that, I'll check it out. Before I do that, to follow-up: after downgrading, the Kindle restarted itself and automatically proceeded to re-install 5.14.3.0.1! As in, just minutes after I downgraded it. I have no idea how or what happened there. Trying the downgrade again this time airplane mode for sure on. I'm installing the extension above immediately too.
