There are plenty of poorly designed devices out there, but also many that work just fine. Unless you check, it's hard to differentiate devices that are the older Bluetooth Classic vs BLE. The original Bluetooth standard is 24 years old. Most things you use should be the newer BLE. Also, too many devices have too short a timeout.
I'm a big fan of USB also, but in many cases low power consumption on USB is hardly a consideration. Flash drives can take a lot of power. An internal SD card (when available) is a better choice.
