Of course Kobo is capable of doing it. But, Kobo has to decide what to do for all of their customers. Not just what a few who think they know what is going on. Yes, they could turn on the optimize legibility option for everyone. But, then they would get the complaints about performance. Which have been made in this forum. Or they turn on the performance option and get complaints about worse typography. Instead, they have taken the middle road that is probably going to be fine for most people and given a way for those to care one way or the other to make their own choice.
