You need a launcher to run KO in all platforms that are not intended to run applications (such as Kindles, Kobos, Cervantes or Remarkables).
On the specific case of the ReMarkable2 you'll also need a framebuffer driver that's able to actually refresh the screen.That's the RM2FB on your link. It works as a service that dispatchs requests made by clients.
The client/server protocol was made to be backwards compatible with RM1 (typical NTX ioctls & waveforms to drive the screen), so all programs that worked fine on the 1st model can be used on the RM2 with just that little program.
