What I've observed at times is that even if I do shut calibre down, and both the GUI and system tray icon have disappeared, using the sysinternal's pslist tool still shows both a calibre and calibe_parallel process still running. A pskill calibre then suffices to kill them.
I wonder if this is what's led me to occasionally have the same issue; calibre not restarting after an upgrade and requiring a repair installation.
