No, it looks like there is something wrong with your bootloader command processing.
The "gold standard" is always flashing, then rebooting normally.
OTOH, this is not a good idea if your image is actually bad for some reason.
OTOH, since you know your way around EDL there is not too much risk as long as you don't destroy the partitioning.
As much as I'm a partisan of edl.exe there is not a world of difference between that and edl.py
