I thought it must be the patches, the nanoclock or nickelmenu and probably other books in my library, so i hard formatted my device to delete everything, then updated via wifi to 4.32 and loaded just the two books i was reading and the device still froze.

The device would restart within the minute after the froze/crash. I can also restart it by long pressing the power button.

I reverted to 4.30, and finished the Gray Man from 30% and no single freezing and crash with patches, nanoclock, and nickelmenu

BTW how does one check the database integrity on a kobo?
You can check the database integrity using Calibre with Kobo Utilities.

Have you checked those eBooks for errors?
