In most cases, the reason for problems with Readers is due to the battery. Perfectly good hardware that could still be in use but for a battery.
Some Readers are really difficult to get into and the battery wires are soldered to the motherboard. So you really have to know what you are doing or not be bothered trying to fix it and maybe failing.
