I'll admit that, not having read any of his books, and only being vaguely familiar with The Girl, I thought M. R. Carey was a woman, and took me a while to figure out he's the Mike Carey that did the Neverwhere comic adaptation. (Which I was interested in reading until I learned how they depicted the single Black character in it).
