Not true for any particular install of Windows or Android unless you are installing junk. OTOH Apple deliberately slowed older iOS with an update to encourage people to upgrade. They claimed it was to help the battery. I've replaced the cell in a Sony older than than iPhone 4 and I use it as outdoor phone and media player. Don't use browser or Internet apps on it. My latest phone in contrast now never leaves the house as it has the number for 2FA, so I can't afford to have it lost or stolen.
