You forget that the PW5 has a newer Carta screen, with (supposedly) better contrast. This may negate any differences due to the top layer.
BTW, I've had an ereader with an IR screen - the Kindle Basic 2014. I was not impressed by the screen. It was neither particularly white nor particularly contrasty. So that's another myth that IR screens are always better than capacitive.
