Brett's series are all good, although I haven't tried the couple of new Ellen Curtis ones. But I still stand by Blotto & Twinks for their Wodehousian (how DOES one make an adjective out of Wodehouse?) touch. And by Mrs Pargeter for both the basic premise and the execution on the basic premise - I love when Melita's disapproving manner is enough to keep her late husband's associates from saying what her late husband actually did

. And I like her own personality too...
But maybe I'll re-read a few Charles Paris ones, which I haven't read since I was in graduate school, and which may thus have been tainted by that unhappy experience
