As with any server, it is possible to extend the access outside of the local network. It involves configuring the router/firewall/gateway device/modem to forward the ports from outside the network. It is a common topic and exactly how you do it depends on the devices involved. Details that are specific to calibre are discussed in the calibre forum, but, most of the difficulties are elsewhere.
