One thing that stood out to me, watching all four seasons back to back is that the squad room started out as a normal office with normal lighting. By season four the office was really dark with blueish lighting. One of my pet peeves with crime shows is that offices and crime scenes are always dark.

Last night I watched a couple of films. Tonight I'm going to continue with Ozark I think. I've watched the first two seasons so far. I really love the series, but it's one I need to be in the mood for to appreciate it fully.
One of the things that drives me nuts with crime shows of all kinds is, why doesn't anybody, ever, turn on the damn lights? As much as I liked William Peterson (Manhunter, CSI which became CSI:Vegas when the spinoffs happened), I mean, for the love of ****, turn on the damn lights instead of puttering around at crime scenes in the dark with a stupid wee flashlight. Sheesh.

I remember a colleague of mine, suggesting, all those years ago, that we take up a collection for them and send it to the show, offering to buy some watts for them, lol!

With regard to the dark/bluish lighting--I think the "corruption" and darkness of the squad room and whatsisname's room--the wee man who started out as the Ripper Tour Guide and resident consultant expert--was very deliberate and meant to convey the creepy factor from the demonic old lady. I mean, hell, they talked about it, like the mold, etc. IIRC.
