I think , in this way you have some protection that if your kindle updates to next firmware 5.14.4 or higher.
You can use renameotabin extension to block future updates of kindle firmware. You can find renameotabin in this thread

If you used "Rename" button of renameotabin extension for block updates, use "Restore" button of renameotabin before step 1 for activation "Update Your Kindle " from Settings menu of your kindle
Thank you much. Now my Oasis 3 runs on 5.14.3, and KUAL works again.
