I've said that on many an occasion. I'm chatting with a stranger and decide that now would be a good time to introduce myself. So, I'll interrupt what I'm saying and say "by the way, my name is..."

I have no idea where any of my colloquialisms originate because I moved around a lot. I've lived in 9 states (all west of the Mississippi River) and 3 countries (eastern Asia), thanks to my father's Army career and my stint in the Army.
