Voyage stuck in demo mode, cannot factory reset

Hello! I have a KV 5.13.6, and got stuck in demo mode (because I made the foolish mistake of selecting en_US and not en_GB from the get go).

To get back to square one and start over with the right language, I have tried to factory reset my device several times by a couple of different methods:

1. I tried entering USB drive mode, creating an empty folder titled DO_FACTORY_RESTORE, and rebooting. This hasn't worked--should it be a file as opposed to a folder? What kind of file?
2. I also tried the "resell" option from the advice of another thread.

Neither seem to be working.

I then tried winter_clothes' solution to make the jb files en_US compatible but no dice there.

Any thoughts? Have I irreparably messed up my poor Kindle in my quest for functional collection management?
