Check first the settings in the onboard software from Kobo:
Power saving and Privacy - Sleep mode and power off - Show actually reading book & Actually book cover in full screen
Afterwards in KOReader:
Settings - Screen - Screensaver - Use last book‘s cover as screensaver & Add message to screensaver
After doing this steps it should work.
