I seem to remember them from 4.30 firmware (they were in the kobo directory inside the fonts directory. The name stands for Scientific and Technical Information eXchange. They are aimed at the scientific, medical and technical fields.
There also used to be a directory inside the kobo directory called encrypted which had 3 fonts in it but those seem to have disappeared.
Edit: Digging through some old notes, those 3 fonts appeared when I selected one of the Chinese language options and synced. With 4.32.19501, I only get two fonts there with the font file called ug_arudjingxihei.ttf (AR UDJingxi Hei) having disappeared from that directory. Though that file does exist in the fonts directory in the KoboRoot.tgz file so an ooops.
