Scott Campbell is a pseudonym of Frederick W Davis (1858-1933), a prolific pulp writer around the turn of the 20th century. His style still has the naivete of the period: the bad guys are "rascals" and "ruffians", there is a master criminal ("The Big Finger", no less!); the good guy is captured but manages to escape in time; the bad guy is captured but manages to escape in time for the nest episode; and so on. Still, quite good fun in its way. The hero is a semi-private detective with close links to the New York police, with a Center Street HQ detective as sort of liaison man.
