It doesn't take 7 taps total. 3 gets you to the block option, 1 more let's you add it to an existing contact.

What irks me about the issue is that the providers, in my case Verizon, make me pay to really block spammers. I usually make use of the Silence Unknown Callers, but can miss calls I need to receive, like from the grandson's school, or my mom's doctor, since both have more than one outgoing line. And that setting doesn't do anything to stop texts.

The spam texts from political groups is on the upswing for sure. I block the numbers and get on with my day.

If I could get family and friends to not text before 7:30 a.m. on weekdays, and 8:30 on weekends, that would be great. They get pissy when you ask them to wait until later in the day.

"Turn your phone off when you don't want texts" isn't a viable option when your 91 year old mom still lives on her own, and your BIL is fighting a losing battle with esophageal cancer.
