The Recent sort appears to work correctly here. There is an occasional book from Kobo that turns up not were I am expecting it, or, using multiple devices confusing me. But, when I check, they seem to be correct.

Have you checked the clock on the device? It should sync when WiFi turns on, but, if you don't use WiFi, it might not be correct. And that can cause some interesting things.
