Most folk seem not to know how to secure their WiFi network and suppliers of WiFi gear got smarter and the WiFi passphrase is no longer 12345 or pswd any longer as well as blocking WiFi to WiFi connections by default.
What 'Band' is another stumble. One device is on 2.4 another on 5.0, cheap routers may not be able to connect these together: ever.
Oh! let us not forget (vanilla) DHCP. Your 'server' may not always get the same IP. You need to Reserve one (needed if your server is portable and uses other locations, where setting IT to a static address is inconvenient .
A few more:
  • Assuming the PC is running windows, don't forget the private vs public network problem. If the network is "public" then no other device will be able to connect to calibre.
  • The AV. Lots of AVs block incoming connections.
  • The firewall.
  • Setting up a guest network on the router
  • Guest mode on the router
  • Wireless Isolation Mode set on the router
