For me, I 100% side-load. After the initial setup, I turn off WiFi, never to be turned on again. That's why I was looking for a way to delete the links.
Archiving assists in sideloading. I can't remember the last time I downloaded a book to my Kobo by Wifi. I buy them on the website on my PC, download them, de-drm them, load them onto my Sage by Calibre, then move the purchased copy to my archive. All of this is done with the WiFi off
