Works okay on SUSE Tumbleweed (KDE Plasma 5.24.4) and Debian 11.3 (GNOME 3.38.4) with calibre 5.38, calibre 5.40 and calibre 5.99.8.

I would suspect something in your Mint/Cinnamon setup is not a happy camper.
