Actually I usually store it in any drm free format.
That's the key, if I want another format I will just convert it again (ebooks are not music or video where you can lose quality during conversion, and I'll just do a loseless conversion for comics).
The best thing is if multiple options works since some of them will stop working.

I just tested a new purchase from Kobo. I opened the Kobo Desktop app, downloaded the book, opened calibre and Obok showed the book was there with DRM, imported to calibre and no problems.

About the cracked new Adobe drm that's really good. If they force the new Adobe version we should be able to still enjoy ebook without drm.

About the kobo ebook did you open the converted ebook? Because I did not get any error during conversion but the result was not readable in my case.
