Note that the autoadder can't see into subfolders, so make sure that any files are in the root of your autoadd folder. Also check Preferences > Adding Books > Automatic adding to make sure your files aren't being ignored.
If you're sure of those, I've noticed that sometimes the autoadder can get sticky — never really identified what causes this to happen. Usually a restart will fix it, or Job Spy has an option that'll fix it (Job Spy+ > GUI Tools that are Behavior-Related > Tickle Auto-Adder To Wake Up).
