A few days ago I finished:

The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams. I thought this was excellent. The fictional story of a girl growing up while the Oxford English Dictionary takes shape around her blends neatly into the factual backdrop of Oxford, the OED, the struggle for women's suffrage and the Great War. The observations about language are not subtle, but do form a convincing core to the story. I think the ending was drawn out a bit much, and somewhat overwrought, but it was obvious I had come to care strongly enough that I was affected by it. Something like 4.5/5.

Now I am onto something lighter again: A Riddle in Bronze by Simon Haynes, first of his Mysteries in Metal series. So far it's keeping me entertained.
