I'm happy with the basic but sometimes it's just SLOW. And oftentimes my touch doesn't register, so I have to touch the screen again to turn the page. It happens every 10-20 page turns. Also I don't know if the battery on the basic is just atrocious or I'm just a really heavy reader. I find myself needing to top off the charge every few days.

The basic is great, but I think I'll stay away from that line when it's time to upgrade, even if Amazon releases an updated version. They also like to skimp on features like the inverted text (not that I'd use it, black background makes my vision blurry), but still, it would be nice to have that option.[/QUOTE]

After I got an iPad mini, my PW4 fell into disuse mostly because it was so slow (this was before the latest round of updates that did nothing to improve that situation). I thought I’d never get another Kindle.

But PW5 has reversed the situation. It’s an improvement on multiple fronts over the PW4: much faster, significantly better display and great battery performance (I have not warmed up to the warm light but that’s there as well). I didn’t think I needed a larger screen but I’ll never go back to a 6” screen. I do about half of my reading on it now.

As for inverted text, it’s what I use if reading in completely dark (lowering brightness or using warm light seem inferior to it) but only for maybe 5-10 minutes. The contrast is just not good enough to be comfortable. I’ll read on my OLED screen phone or iPad min with dark theme which is many times better.
