This may be too simple a response but, just to be sure:
1. The kindle will only show a limited group of file types. It will show "mobi" , "azw" "kfx", html, txt and pdf. It will not show "epub" files, which are the most common non-Amazon ebooks.
2. The types of files you can mail to a kindle is different and excludes some files the kindle could display directly, such as azw). You can not mail epub files.
