How I solved the Amazon log-in problem.

I had exactly the same problem as you after using Kubrick on my Kindle K3 Wireless, couldn't register it with Amazon, couldn't see many https websites - I've managed to fix it! Here's how I did it...
1 - Reset the Kindle to factory defaults (home, menu, settings, menu, "Reset to Factory Defaults").
2 - When that's done and it's restarted, go to the web page mentioned by Quoth in post #8 and click on "Previous Software Updates for Kindle E-Reader". Download Software Update 3.4.2.
3 - Put the file (Update_kindle_3.4_3.4.2_B008.bin) into the root of your Kindle and update it. (Home, menu, settings, menu,"Update Your Kindle").
Your Kindle is now at version 3.4.2 and you should now be able to register it with Amazon. If you want, you could repeat steps 2 and 3 with Software Update 3.4.3 to get to the latest version.
