I wouldn't put too much faith in a Windows network share, other than
"you've been lucky thus far". I'd say the same for a NAS. Or a Linux server with NFS. Or Google Drive.
I don't like the fact that Calibre does not play nicely with remote storage. But that's how things are. How that remote storage is implemented appears irrelevant from everything I've read about Calibre. So the
"my remote storage is better than your remote storage" game is fun to watch as a spectator, but I wouldn't want to be a player. The
"I've never had a problem" anecdotes are fun to read, as if they somehow imply that there will never be a problem.
I would love to implement remote storage for my Calibre instance. But I have come to accept that this would be a bad thing. So I don't do it. I replicate remotely, and backup, but that is all done only after Calibre has been shut down cleanly.
